Home > MRI Scan
An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Scan is a medical imaging technique that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the internal structures of the body.
You may be asked to change into a hospital gown and remove any metal objects, as MRI is sensitive to metal. Inform the technologist if you have metal implants or devices.
You'll lie down on a table that slides into the MRI machine. It's crucial to remain as still as possible to ensure clear images.
The MRI machine can be noisy, so you'll be provided with earplugs or headphones to reduce the noise.
In some cases, a contrast dye may be injected into a vein to enhance the visibility of certain structures. This is more common for specific types of MRI Scans.
The scan can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour, depending on the area being examined.
If you have claustrophobia or anxiety, inform your healthcare provider, as they may offer solutions such as sedation or use an open MRI machine.
