Influenza virus mainly affects upper and / or lower respiratory tract with variable severity every year.Most of the severe outbreaks are caused by Influenza A virus due to H & N antigens of these viruses which undergo periodic antigenic variation eg., H1N1 and H3N2 viruses. Influenza B causes less severe disease due to less antigenic variation. Rhinoviruses are a prominent cause of common cold mainly affecting infants and young children.
