If one is healthy, the blood\u00a0vessels are muscular and elastic. They stretch when the heart pumps blood\u00a0through them. The heart beats about 60 to 80 times a minute under normal conditions. The blood pressure rises with each heartbeat and falls when the heart relaxes between beats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Blood pressure is broken into systolic and diastolic values. The systolic measurement is the peak pressure in the arteries, and the diastolic measurement is the minimum pressure in the arteries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lalpathlabs.com\/pathology-test\/hypertension-panel\"><strong>High blood pressure<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0does not mean excessive emotional tension, although emotional tension and stress can temporarily increase blood pressure. <strong>Normal blood pressure\u00a0is below 120\/80; blood pressure between 120\/80 and 139\/89 is called\u00a0&#8220;pre\u2013hypertension&#8221;, and a blood pressure\u00a0of 140\/90 or above is considered high.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">High blood pressure\u00a0usually has no symptoms; in fact, many people have blood pressure\u00a0for years without even knowing it. It doesn\u2019t refer to being tense, nervous or hyperactive.
