Laboratory testing services at LPL conform to stringent Quality standards specified by the Indian National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), United States College of American Pathologists (CAP) and United States National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS).

Through our Quality Principles, the Quality Assurance Department actively monitors the Quality performance indicators for the entire process of laboratory services. These indicators have become the main source of the continuous quality improvement program involving the entire Quality System. The commitment to Quality is further demonstrated by the implementation of a Quality system that fulfils the ISO 9001: 2000 standards. These achievements make LPL the highest accredited laboratory in India. A major driving force contributing to the performance improvement is the installation of a world class state -of-the-art computer software.

A major driving force contributing to the performance improvement is the installation of a world class state -of-the-art computer software specific for Laboratory Medicine. This software utilises the latest Sun Microsystem Central Server which facilitates a bi - directional interface between itself and the bar coded patient samples in the diagnostic instruments. The diagnostic machine on receiving the bar - coded patient sample identification communicates the patient ID to the central server. The central server on receiving this patient ID gives the command to the diagnostic instrument to carry out the required tests, thus making this a unique completely hands off technological milestone for the first time in India. On completion, the test results are validated by technical staff and finally printed either at the Main Lab, or remote collection centres which may be situated as far as 2,000 km away from Delhi.

Using the above technology, with the main server operating from Delhi, LPL is the first laboratory in the world to utilise the services of a communication satellite - INSAT 3C for real - time - online processing of patients samples in a far flung area.

All tests at LPL are conducted in strict accordance with standard protocols complying with NCCLS guidelines, as well as national and international regulations. Quality Control samples are run every day at pre - determined intervals before commencement of testing of actual patient samples. Results are checked for compliance with Westgard rules. Thereafter, Departmental Heads and Senior Scientists review Levey Jenning control charts at frequent intervals to detect areas requiring improvement.

The Quality Improvement Committee comprising Directors, Heads of departments and Senior technologists from representative sections meet at regular intervals to review achievement of Quality targets and set new goals for Continual Quality Improvement. Regular audits are conducted by them to check compliance to documented protocols.

Competence testing of technical and paramedical staff is periodically performed to check the entire testing process from sample registration to report printing.

LPL participates regularly in inter laboratory proficiency testing conducted by College of American Pathologists (CAP), Royal College of Pathologists of Australia (RCPA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), USA, Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Results are periodically reviewed by the Quality Improvement Committee.

Each section of the laboratory has a documented Quality Improvement Program setting targets to be achieved annually. This helps in identifying problematic areas, trouble shooting and thereby improving performance of the organisation continually. The quality improvement subcommittee of each section meets regularly to review performance versus targets to be achieved. All sections are periodically monitored by the Quality Improvement Committee which also takes inputs from the Customer Surveys, Customer complaints, Employee surveys and External feedback.
